OSHA PSM 1910.119(d) is the foundational documentation element, the compilation of written process safety information that the employer has to complete before conducting any PHA. PSI breaks into three categories. The first is (d)(1) chemical hazard information covering toxicity, PELs, physical data, reactivity and corrosivity. The second is (d)(2) technology information covering the block flow diagram, the process chemistry, the maximum intended inventory, the safe operating limits and the consequence of deviation. The third is (d)(3) equipment information covering materials of construction, P and IDs, electrical classification, relief device sizing and design codes. The failure mode of this element is gradual erosion.
