Electrical Safety Audit

We audit the installation against the CEA Regulations, the state factory rules and the applicable Indian Standards, and rank every finding on hazard rather than on clause number

Technical overview

Electrical Safety
Audit

The electrical safety audit is a statutory requirement across most Indian states, carried out periodically by a competent person and submitted to the inspecting authority. It is also the assessment most likely to be treated as a formality, which is why the reports so often list clause deviations without saying which of them could kill somebody. Our audit covers the installation from the incoming supply through the substations, switchrooms, cable galleries and field distribution to the point of use, and it combines documentation review against the CEA Regulations 2010 and the applicable Indian Standards with field inspection and measurement. We carry thermography on live boards, earth resistance and continuity measurement, and insulation resistance where the schedule allows it, because a clause check without measurement records only what the drawings claim. Findings are ranked on consequence and exposure so that remedial spend follows the hazard, and we support closure evidence back to the inspecting authority rather than handing over a report and leaving.

Electrical Safety Audit Overview
Engineering process

Electrical Safety Audit workflow

Documentation Review

Review the single line diagram, the statutory approvals, the test and calibration records and the previous audit closure status.

Statutory Compliance Mapping

Map the installation against the CEA Regulations, the state factory rules and the applicable Indian Standards, clause by clause.

Field Inspection and Measurement

Walk down substations, switchrooms, cable galleries and field distribution, with thermography, earth resistance and insulation measurement.

Protection and Interlock Checks

Verify relay settings against the coordination study, and test interlocks, earthing switches and safety interlocking on their proving.

Risk Ranking of Findings

Rank each non conformance on consequence and exposure rather than on clause number, so remedial spend follows the hazard.

Report and Closure Support

Issue the statutory format report with a prioritised action register, and support closure evidence for the inspecting authority.

Scope of work

Every deliverable from basis to handover

Complete Electrical Safety Audit scope covering every calculation, drawing, specification, and construction support activity.

We audit against the CEA Regulations 2010 and the state factory rules that actually apply to your site
We measure rather than only inspect, covering thermography, earth resistance, continuity and insulation resistance
We check relay settings against the coordination study, since a correct drawing and a wrong setting look identical on paper
We test interlocks, earthing switches and safety interlocking on their proving rather than accepting the design intent
We examine the permit to work and lockout arrangements as they are practised, not as they are written
We review the competency and authorisation of the people doing electrical work
We rank findings on consequence and exposure so remedial spend follows the hazard
We support closure evidence to the inspecting authority, including retest where a finding needs proving closed
Engineering outcomes

Outcomes of Electrical Safety Audit

Electrical Hazard Identification
  • We find the defects that carry a shock or arc consequence
  • We verify that protective earthing is continuous and adequate
  • We test the interlocks people rely on when switching
  • We check that isolation practice matches the procedure
Statutory Electrical Compliance
  • We audit to the CEA Regulations 2010 and the state factory rules
  • We issue the report in the statutory format the authority expects
  • We map findings to the Indian Standard clause each one rests on
  • We support the periodic audit obligation with defensible evidence
Distribution Reliability
  • We find the hot joints before they fail
  • We identify protection settings that were never verified
  • We check maintenance and test records against NFPA 70B practice
  • We surface the single points of failure in the distribution
Remediation Prioritisation
  • We prevent the unplanned outage a failed joint causes
  • We target remedial spend at the findings that carry consequence
  • We reduce insurance exposure on electrical causes
  • We avoid the cost of a repeat audit failing on the same findings
