Studies
A HAZID is systematic about hazard source rather than deviation. It asks what could harm people, the environment, the asset or the business at all, which brings in the things a HAZOP will never raise: the control room inside a blast footprint, the flood that takes the substation, the contractor population during a turnaround, the residues left in a vessel at decommissioning. Because it works from a process description, an inventory and a plot plan rather than from a firm P&ID, it belongs at early design and front end engineering, ahead of the detailed design HAZOP, where its output defines the hazard set the design has to answer. It is not a concept stage exercise. Run against a block diagram with no inventory and no layout the team has nothing to bite on and produces hazards that could have been listed without them in the room. The same method also covers technology transfer, pilot and kilo scale before a first campaign, facility siting, and the construction, turnaround and decommissioning phases that no design stage study looks at.

How the study is executed
We open at scope & basis of design and close at report & close out support, and each stage hands the next one a record rather than a summary of it.
Define study boundaries, review P&IDs, PFDs, and process descriptions to establish the engineering basis.
Divide the system into logical nodes, brief the multidisciplinary team on guide words, deviations, and agenda.
Apply structured methodology to identify deviations, causes, consequences, safeguards, and risk ranking for each node.
Evaluate credible worst case consequences and existing safeguard adequacy against applicable risk criteria.
Develop prioritised action items, assign ownership, and classify by risk reduction potential.
Issue defensible report, support action close out tracking and revalidation at defined intervals.
